» articles & tutorialsFinal FAntasy 7 FAQ - Part 1
This is part 1 of… I dunno… 3 perhaps? There will be ten questions in each part for the sake of not crashing the article cue (which happened with my original completed FAQ… about thirty questions in it). Before we begin, remember that you cannot use any of the information in this FAQ on your site or whatever without my permission. Get in contact with me @: firebolt16@sbcglobal.net ace_strife@mail.com This guide is for all the secret stuff, rumors, rumor killing, and so much more. This is not a guide to help you beat the game. So, let’s get to that FAQ! Q: Is it possible to revive Aeris? A: This is the most popular question I’ve come across. The answer is, simply put, no. However, Square Soft originally wanted to make the revitalization of Aeris a reality. They just realized that it would be too dramatic if Aeris came back from the dead. Originally, there were only supposed to be three main characters: Cloud, Aeris, and Barret. No one else was supposed to be in it. Thus, you can imagine why reviving Aeris was considered at first… Q: Can Zack join your party? A: No. Zack is dead. To see the flashback cutscene, go to the basement of the Shinra mansion in Nibelheim in disk 3. You can’t cheat to get him or anything. Zack is more of a metaphor than a character anyway. Q: How do I get the ninth party member after Aeris dies? A: There is no ninth character. For those of you who don’t understand this question, you only have eight party members at the end of the game. Since there are three people per party, you’ll have two parties of three, and one party of two when you face off against Bizzaro Sephiroth. Some people want to know if you can complete that third party. Unfortunately, you can’t. You’ll just have one party of two. Q: So, there aren’t any other party members? A: As I’ve already said, no. However, Square was planning on putting another character in the game. It was a secret character. A goblin named Boxer, in fact. Funny, huh? Q: Why does the game seem so incomplete? A: Many text scenes don’t make sense, and you usually feel as if you missed something important. Also, the game tends to “jump” a little bit from scene to scene. The reason for this is because Square had to rush to put FF7 together. It was their quickest job, actually. They spent the least time on FF7 than they have on any other Final Fantasy after the NES titles. Back in the day, if a game company promised a release, they wouldn’t push the date back for pretty much any reason because most people didn’t trust video games too much. I dunno. I was too young back in the 90’s. :P Thus, Square had to sell an incomplete game. That’s why there are several typos, and the game seems rushed – as well as the graphics being sub par. There are also items and material that exist in the game (gameshark them) that don’t have any purpose. If Square had more time, the game would have been AT LEAST 1.5 times longer! Yes, Square stated this. There would be more underwater and space adventures, and the Shinra-Mako storyline would have been longer. Q: Is it possible to get the Masamune? A: There is a Masamune in the game. However, it is merely an item, and not a weapon. I don’t know if you can get it in the actual game, but I was able to get my hands on it via a gameshark. Q: Why does the game seem so easy? A: That’s a matter of opinion and skill. If you don’t stalk up on HP+ and MP+ material, then the game may seem a little difficult. Otherwise, you’re right. The game is easy. A little TOO easy. That’s because in ’97, Americans did not like to play difficult games. This was the era where mindless first-person shooters was the most popular game genre in America, and RPGs were still a rather unknown category of gaming. The Japanese version is much more difficult (I’m not talking about FF7 International – I’m talking about the original FF7). There are actual puzzles, increased encounter rates (or so we’ve been told. Unconfirmed, however), and more difficult monsters and bosses. Q: Is it possible to date anyone besides Aeris? A: Yeah, it is. If you don’t talk to Aeris throughout the game except when you are SUPPOSED TO in order to advance the storyline, then Tifa will ask you out instead of Aeris. If you don’t talk to either Tifa or Aeris, then Barret will ask you out. I guess there’s little bit for everyone in here… Q: Is there a difference in stats among the characters? A: There isn’t that big of a difference. Especially near the end of the game. Barret and Cid have more HP and strength than Vincent and Aeris, of course, and Aeris has more Spirit than either of those two. Tifa obviously is quicker than Barret. But this is only by a few points. At the end of the game, everyone will do over 4,000 damage easily, and max out both HP and MP with some help from materia. However, the only real way to gauge a party member’s usefulness is by what the final weapon and ultimate Limit Break each party member has. Red XIII has the worst ultimate Limit Break (it’s similar to FF9’s Zidane’s Grand Lethal Trance technique), and Cid probably has the best (except for Cloud, of course) in terms of dealing damage. Q: Who is Aeris’s father? A: Professor Gast is Aeris’s father. Yeah, that’s right – she’s half Ancient and half… whatever normal people were called… You can see/hear (can’t remember) security footage and home videos of Aeris as a child in her hometown to the north. She used to live in the lab-like house in the snowy city (can’t remember the name… It’s the place where you can go snowboarding…) Well, that’s part one of my FF7 FAQ. These were some pretty basic questions. The next part will deal more with actual rumors. Part 3 will deal with the connection between the FF series and all that good stuff. Remember, I long to hear from you! E-mail me your comments. Until next time! ~Ace |
