» articles & tutorialsAlkalineTrio at the Astoria
The first support act, Flecter, had already started before we got into the pit. They were very good, yet at the same time just an add on from Alkaline Trio. A lot of their stuff sounded simular to the stuff from Alkaline Trio like "Stupid Kid". We only caught the end of them. I presume they had a very short set list. Next support act up was Hot Water Music. This is a band I have heard of from Tony Hawks 4 (although they didn't play the song live). The pit started to get going when they came on. They are a really good band and I think they will go along way. Their music is a mixture of melodic post hardcore. The usuall circle of death arose a few times. I got thown in and was up against this huge 6 foot really fat man with a beard (We called him the Hog) blocking any one that came into contact with him. I got thrown into him and got bounced off XD. Coming to the end of their set list, maybe a few songs left, out of the blue Matt Skibba (Front man from Alkaline Trio) Came on and was singing with them. The croud went mental! He went off after the end of the song. After the end of their show, it was a long wait for Alkaline trio. The Anticipation for them to come on was huge an it seemed like it was taking forever. Although, by this time I was completely nackered (tired). And then the lights went out...The orchestral music from A Clockwork Orange came on and then..... The powering riff from the song "This could be love" (the first track on their new album) began. The Pit was crazy, I couldn't move. I was just being squashed against everyone. I was singing along with passion. Matt Skibba was wearing a black gothic shirt on with red frizzly bits in the middle. The bassist was wearing a full suit with a red shirt underneath and the drummer was wearing a black shirt. They then went on to play "We've had enough", one of their singles from their new album. It Fucking rocked! At this point, one of my friends went up crowd surfing. Next up was "One hundred stories". This was the first time we got to see the bassist sing. He has an awesome voice, really low tone. They then played "Continental" (which is one of my personal favourites) and then played some of their early stuff which I have never heard of. But when I heard them play "maybe I'll catch fire" I was happy and pit when crazy. This was followed by "Armeggedon" and then "Emma". Numerous things happened through out that part. Some guy grabbed my arm and though me and I went flying! I crashed on the floor somewhere. I would have kicked his ass, but he was a big mother fucker :P. They then played "All on Black" and I decided to go crowd surfing. So I got my mates to lift me up. I was chucked across the tops of peoples heads. I then fell straight on my ass and heard people looking down on me go "ooooh". They then shouted "Grab his Legs! ! !" they picked me up and through me over the barrier and I was caught by the security guard. I was about a meter away from the Bassist <3. I then went back into the pit to my find my friends. I was absolutely knackered again by this point. And I appreciated it when they decided to play their slow acoustic song from Good Mourning (the new album) "Blue in the face". It started off with Matt on his own singing. Then the bass and drums came in for the first chorus. It sounds so better live than on the record. On the record it is just acoustic guitar throughout. They then played some over songs such as "Hell yes" and some stuff from their first album. And then they went off. I knew that they were going to come back on for an encore, becuase they always do at ends of gigs like this. People were chanting "Trio, Trio, Trio" Then they came back on and played "Private Eye" One of my favourite songs. It rocked! Everyone was really tired though. They then thanked "hot water music" becuase it would be their last show with them, and they have been playing together for years! So the two guitarists from Hot water music came on to play and Matt was Singing, the bassist from Alkaline trio was playing bass and the drummer from alkaline trio was playing bass. They were all singing and playing the song "Radio". Then Matt came down to the barrier and was leaning over to touch the fans. At this time the drummers switched and the bassists switched to the drummer and bassist from hot water music. And they all came on singing. The Drummer from Alkaline trio staged dived, it cool :D. Then they went off. At then end their was a bit of a fued though. Whilst they came back on to chuck their drumsticks and plectrums out, Matt noticed one of the guards steal his plectrums. He went ape shit, screaming at the guard. Then all the other band members from both bands came on to join in. It was really funny. We were all chanting Matt on. After we got outside the building, there were loads of t-shirts being sold for £5. I bought one, a cream one with Alkaline Trio on the front and the album sleave from good mourning on the back. I was going to buy one for losl, but they didn't have one big enough to fit him >:D! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! We got into the taxi and drove home. A great night for Rock music! |
