Console: Playstation 2 Genre: Mech/FPS Truthfully, I was a Transformers fan when I was little, and even more truthfully, I was looking forward to this game. I got it and was let down in some places, and happy with others. Storyline: To help those of you who have never heard of Transformers, basically trasformers are giant robots that transform into miscellanious forms of transportation. Trucks, tanks, cars, planes, space shuttles, etc, if people ride it, a transformer turns into it. To start off the Decepticons (or bad guys) have made a bunch of Decepticlones, which are weaker versions of the decepticons and are mass produced into an army. Using these Decepticlones, Megatron, the leader of the Decepticons, is fighting with the Autobots (or good guys) over control of Cybertron, the transformer home world. In a nifty intro cut-scene Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots, is fighting hand to hand with Megatron. Right when Megatron is about to finish off Optimus a signal comes from Earth about the Minicons' location. The minicons are a bunch of smaller robots that transorm and link up with the transformers and give them stronger powers and special weapons. Basically fro some unknown reason Megatron gives up for the moment on defeating his life long rival and goes after the minicons. Optimus, being the good guy he is, takes chase so that Megatron can't use the minicons for evil. You get to take over from here. Average storyling but there's really not any in-game storyline at all. [Storyline 3/5] Graphics The graphics are great. They're more than what I was expecting completely. Not cell-shading which makes it acceptable and it has graphics equal to that of Armored Core Silent Line but uses the blur effect to make everything look smooth. I'd say it's at least on graphical par with Halo. [Graphics 4/5] Sound/Music The music is average nothing new, nothing bad. The sounds are awesome though. The grass makes noises under your feet. The transforming sound is just like on the show. If you get to close to something you hear the sound of scraping metal. The voices are the same as on the T.V. show. Its just beatiful as far as the sounds go. The music's averageness however takes the grade from a 5 to a 4. [Sound/Music 4/5] Gameplay Its basically a first-person-shooter setup. You get to play as any one out of 3 autobots and you get to change their eqipped minicons as you unlock them. I was expecting more autobots to choose from so I was dissapointed there. There are plenty of minicons but they're a pain to unlock at times. The interesting thing is the extras. You can unlock concept art for the game, concept sketches for the action figures, even movies of the original transformers show. It gets a good solid 4.
