a guide to correct your pcs problems by losl I'd just like to say something now: the last resort should be formatting. Period. Secondly, get a firewall. ZoneAlarm is awesome and it doesn't cost a penny. There are many free virus checkers, so that would be my 3rd thing to suggest getting. Fourth, get Ad-Aware (which as I understand it, isn't free now) or/and Spybot Search and Destroy. Update thier dictionaries and RUN them! Another important thing is to run windows update ATLEAST weekly. If you have run your Spyware Removers and Virus Checkers, and are still having problems start by looking at your processes list. Check the processes list and then open up google and put the process in the search box. The first result typically tells you what it is and how to remove it (if its bad). Keep in mind that SVChost is friendly and it normal for it to use a lot of resources. lsass is also friendly unless its been infected by Sasser, but you can tell if you've been infected by sasser because your computer shuts down litterally 60 seconds after starting up. k? good. If you have "stuff" that ad-ware / SB S&D missed, check to see if there is a site associated with it. Sometimes this stuff is missed (esp. toolbars) because "its not spyware" (even if it so is) Anywho, if you get a little bleep when your start windows XP that says "blah.dll cannot be found" goto start->run->msconfig and goto the start up tab. You can see everything that starts when you turn on your computer there. Locate the dll being launched (check the path), and then look how its being started. Typically its being run from the registry. There are 2 ways to disable the app start up. You can uncheck the box, which basically just masks the problem OR you can delete it permantly by deleting the registry key. For some reason Microsoft shorthands the first tree in MSConfig. HKLM stands for HKey_Local_Machine and HKCU stands for Hkey_Current_User, after that all the navigation is normal and all you have to is right click on the key and choose delete. The next Fun thing to fix, something I recently expirenced is the Run DLL as APP error which totally fucks your pc. This is typically caused by spyware, so run SB S&D or ad-aware. If it still is messing up, click "see what this error report contains." It should site a dll in the window that pops up. Google it if possible. Locate it in your Windows Directory, (typically system32 on windowsXP) and rename it (since you can't delete it), and the problem should be fixed. |
