You get to see an important episode in history before it jumps to the present date where you taken control of the heroin ‘Satara’. It was good to see as woman as the heroine for a change as typically it is a man who is the hero. Overall the dialogue is very good and quite well written. However, the big let down is the story itself. From the promising introduction you are immediately let down by being thrust into a cliché when a ghost from the past gives you a mission to save the world. Also, it has to be mentioned, the love story between Satara and Derek is pretty lame and typical. Characters: (15/20) Characters are excellently developed, even NPC’s like Satara’s parents, are really given a strong sense of personality. However, the way in which the characters deal with situations are pretty clichéd. For example, the relationship between Satara and Derek is pretty predictable and corny, also Satara is a girl who wants to go out exploring but is forced to live in a quite village. I am aware that I have use the word “cliché” a lot but that is because this is an extremely clichéd game. If the author took the time to plan out the story a bit more, and make it more original, then this would be a much better game. Overall, the characters are well developed but are thrust into clichéd scenarios. Gameplay: (0/20) Absolutely horrible. The entire system is ripped from Final Fantasy VI. Not only is the battle system a rip, but it’s not even a good rip. Become a White Mage for example and you don’t have any spells. Also, the fact that no originality at all is used makes the system appear even worse – all the classes from FF are there – Knight, Black Mage, White Mage etc, there was a rumour of having something called a “Rainbow Mage” later but that is as close as you get to originality. The battles were also far too difficult to begin with and the maps poorly designed. There was also a major bug in the game where if you left by the North Exit you teleported to a completely different world map than if you used the Southern Exit. Also, the walk speed of the hero is set to ‘slow’. I really don’t understand why some people do this – it is always annoying, and Lore of the Ancients is no exception. The Battle System has no good points at all. Graphics: (4/20) Again, very poor. Pretty much all RT, RT-Add on or FF rips. Final Fantasy rips are a common feature in Lore of the Ancients. The actual map designs themselves are very poor, and using poor graphics makes them 10 times worse. I also looked through the maps and every single village used the same chipset. Terrible, just terrible. Audio: (6/20) It started off well, the intro music fit the theme perfectly, and the music for the first town was quite good too. But then the music suddenly became very bad. And guess what the battle music was? That’s right! The Final Fantasy Battle Theme! Conclusion: (36/100) Overall this is a pretty shoddy game with poor graphics, story, sound and battle system. I don’t recommend you download this, it is just a complete rip of Final Fantasy and like I said, not a very good one. Screenshots write a review
