![]() DivineLight vol.1 Developed By: DivineLightReview By: Ramza Written on: Sunday, November, 16th, 2003 at 05:10:15 pm Rating: 70% Site: here System: RPG Maker 2000 Download: here Gameplay 9/10 There were no bugs! The game employed the DBS, but it had a few added features. First of all, you had a guest type party member who didn't fight, but every so many turns in battle would heal you instead. Also, you learned more tech attacks or 'Technic' by employing a little script where you input three directions, and it gives you a move based on what you put in. The game was programmed quite nicely! I give it a near perfect score! Graphics 6/10 There were some rtp chips, rtp sets, monster sets, and 1.32 add-on stuff too. But there was also lots of custom graphics, battle animations, and monster sets. Sometimes the faceset didn't match the characterset that it was supposed to match with, and the final two facesets of the game were kinda screwed up.There were poses for climbing ladders, which especially stuck out to me, cuz that's a really cool feature! The maps made good use of the chipsets they were made with however, so this game scores slightly above average in the graphics category. Sound 5/10 A lot of the music was default rtp. What wasn't default rtp stuff was taken from other games. A few tracks that I managed to pick out were from Star Ocean 2, Xenogears, FF6, and chrono cross. Despite this, they were good music choices, (for the most part) and were used well in their respective scenes... Sound effects were mostly default RTP, and a few of the voices from that japanese voice pack that everyone seems to use. Story 8/10 It starts off with a fight between what looks like an angel guy, and some dude that you happen to get to control... it also happens that you name the angel guy... unfortunately I named him Bob and that stuck with him throughout the whole game. Errr... anyways, after the fight it shows an event of 20 years ago where a spaceship called an A.G.W.S. (rip-off of Xenosaga) is attacked but some Giazu, (although the name is different, that's a rip off of Xenosaga too) These things are giant monsters. then it jumps to 19 years later with 'Bob' beginning his trials as a priest or something. He 'transforms' into his dark half (rip off of 'ID' from Xenogears) and aces the trial but remembers nothign of it. He then sets out on a pilgrimage (to pray at all the temples of the world) (rip-off of FFX) Although a lot of the elements of the story were stolen from other games, it was still told really well... really well! It scores a great mark in Storyline! Unquitity 6/10 Let's face it, the game's storyline is far from unique. The grammar and spelling it is terrible. But I'll layoff since the creator was italian... I think. The real prizes go to the modification of the DBS, to allow a guest character to help you from the side lines... and also the system that you go through to master new 'Technics' is quite well made as well. However I do still have to take points away for all the rip-offs that it made in terms of storyline. So it scores just above average. Conclusion I completely enjoyed playing this game. And I'm proud to say that I am looking forward to future releases of it. The storyline is semi-unique, and if you haven't played Xenosaga, Xenogears, and FF10, you probably wouldn't notice anyway. The cool features that were added to the DBS merely sweeten the deal. I highly reccommend this game even though it's score may say otherwise to you. 9 + 6 + 5 + 8 + 6 = 68% =7/10 Screenshots write a review
