![]() Nintendo DS Lite Developed By: NintendoReview By: blue Written on: Saturday, June, 17th, 2006 at 10:05:43 am Rating: 94% Site: here System: Nintendo DS Lite When Nintendo first released the DS, I admit, I wondered to myself, why the absence of 'Game Boy.' I later found out that it was becouse they wanted to include everyone into their marketing stragaty, not just kids (hence the lack of 'Game Boy') which goes along with the stragaty of the Wii. After I understood this, I wondered if the DS would be subject to the changes and revisions that the Game Boy series is popular for. The answer speaks for itself as the DS Lite hit on store shelves June 12th, 2006. I desided (with a friend) to go out and get one, along with New Super Mario Bros. (but thats areview for another day. And person.) After playing with it for a few days, I desided to go ahead and write my review, or rather a comparision of the old and the new. When I opened the box, my first reactions was to call the cops, becouse someone has stolen Apple's design team. The DS Lite looks like a mini white Mac Book, with it being white and glossy, which resembles the Wii as well. I almost felt bad touching it. Its smaller and rounder then the DS, and it closes compleatly as well. There is a place holder at the bottom of the DS Lite, so that it looks whole, contrast to the gaping hole at the bottom of the DS. Overall, the DS Lite is smaller and smoother compared to its big brother. When I finally opened the system up, I saw that the buttons receved a facelift. Literally. The buttons for the DS Lite calls design ques from the Game Boy Micro, which are firmer and extend outwords more then the origional DS. This makes for a much better feel of the controls, contrasts to the DS buttons, which feel cheaply made. Also, the select and start buttons rearrange themselves while the power button leaves altogether; it becomes a switch on the side of the DS Lite by the stylus, which moved from its regular location as well. Speaking of power buttons, I understood what Nintendo ment by 'Lite' when I powered up the DS Lite. Some how, some way, they fit the sun into thoes screens. Comparing the screens of the DS to thoes of the DS Lite is like haveing a flashlight on during the day. Yes, its that bright. Its the type of brightness that allumates a room when you're playing in the dark. I want to say that its as bright as the screen of the Game Gear, but it may be brighter. Be prepared. Wear sunglasses if you have bad eyes. Yes, its that bright. And there you go. The DS Lite in a nutshell. Despite some heavy designing and design ques from the Wii and Apple, The Nintendo DS Lite is the same as the DS. It plays the same games, and it has the same stylus based fun. Although, the DS Lite looks beautiful compared to the DS. So becouse of this, I give it a 94, only becouse its a re-release (despite a very good one) of the same system, and I feel that Nintendo could have made the DS screens just as bright as the DS Lite screens. Despite that, good job, Nintendo. Pat yourselves on the back. You earned it. Screenshots write a review
