![]() Mana Conquest Developed By: RamzaReview By: RPGVirtuoso Written on: Friday, January, 06th, 2006 at 01:23:51 am Rating: 78% Site: here System: RPG Maker 2000 Download: here Gameplay 8/10 While this game uses the DBS, it uses the DBS well. All original skills and whatnot, and different types of attacks dealing different damage to certain enemies. There are also minigames near the beginning of the game where you train to become a knight. One thing that really sets this game apart from the rest is the skill level required to play. The final boss should be rated the hardest boss in the RM2k world. Don't be discouraged, because apparently he's possible to beat and has been. That being said, the difficulty level of this game makes it worth playing. The beginning of this game, to me, was slow to say the least. The farther you get in the game, the more enjoyable it becomes. It's like a snowball that gets bigger as it rolls down a hill. Graphics 7/10 Kudos for Ramza on his custom characters, but they are not the best in the world. You can distinguish between sprites he did and didn't make quite easily. Also, the facesets, though he drew them himself, were not all too amazing. But I must respect the effort he put into it, even if they aren't the best drawings in the world. Also, some maps looked empty. For example, some caves would just be... well, caves... with the occassional doorway. Wonderful chipsets, though. ... and Kurne takes the cake for one of the best made towns I've seen. It has a good feel to it. Battle animation is great.. and get this... he made a scene that shows the world map at a beautiful perspective. I have a screenshot down below. Sounds and Tunes 9/10 MC has lots of original music, but unfortunately, not all original. The Cathedral has an original MP3 song. This game also come full of voiceovers for each of their main characters in battle. One of MC's strong points is the music and its originality. All unoriginal songs are great. Story 7/10 The story runs a bit shorter than expected... You control Rolf, who want to get revenge on Theo who, hating his hometown who banished him for knowing magic, well... burned his home town. You pretty much have to stop Theo from acquiring a few items that would make him a godly evil guy. It's nothing you probably haven't heard before, but there are twists in the plot. Play it to see what I mean. This game also sets the stage for a sequal, so keep your eyes wide open. However, the characters are what make up for the "destroy the bad guy" story. This game offers occasional comic relief, which is brought by the connections you make with the characters. You may even learn to like or dislike some characters. For example, I hated Vernan. Features 8/10 It uses DBS and DMS, but has all original skills and items. Has dungeons that involve more than bashing enemies and walking to the next room. Has a unique skill and stat building system. Has no sidequests. Calculation ((8+7+9+7+8)x 2 = 78) Overall rating: 78 - Yey! I recommend playing this game. You may not like the first few minutes, but it'll grow on you. Screenshots write a review
