RATCHET & CLANK

NOW I UNDERSTAND that there are two sequels out for this game already, but this game takes the cake for it\'s gameplay and all around goodness. It came out in 2002 and it\'s still one of my all time favs.

STORY / PLOT
9 / 10

Standard defeat evil plotter and save the universe. This game takes a new spin on it, with humor and an unlikely duo. A cat-like creature, fights his way through the galaxy trying to find his place. All this, along with a robotic sidekick. Very good stuff; the writers were amazing. The game was amazingly short, though.

GAMEPLAY / REPLAYABILITY
10 / 10

I have to say, I have never played a game this good. This standard platformer has a whopping number of mechanics, whatchamacallits and whatnots. All the little doohickeys are interactive and even the passive items help out in extraordinary ways. Just the feel of the game gives you a sense of \"I want to play it again\". There are also so many secrets and unlockables that it\'s just hard to put down. There are video clips, cheats (like you\'d need them), and upgrades to weapons that were thought up by Insomniac. Minigames are also EVERYWHERE.

VISUALS
8 / 10

The visuals are ecstatically wonderful. They give the feel of peace, gloom, and awesomeness all in one package. The concept art you can unlock shows the effort put into this game. The reason the score is no higher than 8 is because of the lack of variety in the the character designs. The cities seemed devoid of people (even with the monsters around) and the enemies seemed overused at some points. Beautiful, but the graphics seemed copied over and over.

CONTROLS
9 / 10

Easy to use controls and a quick-select system using one button helped enormously. The controls, in my opinion, couldn\'t have been more well designed for a platformer. Much like it\'s older cousin, Jak and Daxter, the mechanics of the game are simple and fun to use. the controls are responsive and maneuverability is a weapon it brandishes with honor. Vehicle control was a bit choppy, some buttons programmed to fire, others left alone, but that wasn\'t a biggie.

UNIQUITY
6 / 10

Sorry to say, it\'s been done before. It matches up to, and may even surpass, Jak and Daxter, but it seems much of one and the same. You cannot play the two games and not compare them to one another. I give this a 6 only because Jak and Daxter came before.

OVERALL
10 / 10

I really liked this game, if you haven\'t noticed. All the game mechanics worked smoothly, with only minor glitches.

AVERAGE :: 9 + 10 + 8 + 9 + 6 + 10 = 52 / 6 = 8.6
